Exhibition Design
Braun 100
Broehan Museum Berlin
The focal point of the exhibition’s structural design was the incorporation of the original stand for the Radio Exhibition in 1955 in Düsseldorf.
This radical new aesthetic was designed by the Visual Communication Department at HfG Ulm, under the direction of Otl Aicher and Hans G. Conrad, with the support of Hans Gugelot: clear information, simple spatial tension and calm self-evidence.
Hardly any company embodies the aesthetic language of the German post-war period more distinctly than Braun. From razors to hi-fi systems, watches to kitchen appliances, Braun devices are all linked by a formal language that, combined with their ease of use, continues to set a precedent for functionalist design to this day. Significant designers such as Wilhelm Wagenfeld, Hans Gugelot and Dieter Rams all worked for Braun.
One hundred years after the company’s foundation, an exhibition at the Broehan Museum showcased the most notable examples of Braun design, as well as the interplay between design, art, and politics throughout the company’s 100-year history.
